Why macrame?

Why macrame?

Hey! First things first, I can't thank you enough for checking my small business out.

My name is Mackenzie. I'm the owner and creator of Untangled Macrame LLC. I think it would be best if I started from the beginning! I am currently 24 years old. My husband, Logan, and I have been together since I was a senior in high school. He's been my rock and biggest supporter ever since we met. After a few years together, we welcomed a beautiful baby boy named Hudson into the world. He's been such a joy and truly a blessing to everyone he meets. For the first few years of Hudson's life, Logan and I were working opposite schedules to provide for our family. I would work night shift while he took on the day.

Let's fast-forward to 2019... Logan asked me to marry him after I got off of work on Christmas Eve! I was so excited! I could not wait for a big wedding with our families... Until COVID hit. I was laid off from my job and frantic trying to find a way to make money without putting my little boy in daycare. I began to DIY everything for our wedding, but the expenses were so unreasonable for my family that we decided to elope.

While talking over my wedding plans with my dear friend, Audrianna, she mentioned that I should have a macrame wedding altar. I had absolutely no clue what she was talking about! Macrame was a foreign word to me. But once she showed me pictures, I knew. That was exactly what I wanted to do. I was so in love with the idea of having a macrame wedding altar and nothing could stop me from getting married in front of one. There was just one problem. I couldn't afford to buy one, so I started to practice. I worked on smaller pieces and practiced every day until I felt confident in my work. After a ton of practice and tears, I was able to create a macrame wedding altar that was portable. We hiked up a mountain and said "I do" in style. It was one of the greatest days of my life.

As I practiced macrame, I started to sell my work to friends and family. Shortly after, I was creating custom and personalized work for strangers, too! Since then, I have expanded my business as much as I possibly can to fit all kinds of styles.

I started making polymer clay earrings in June of 2021. I was pregnant and due with baby boy #2 in August, so I needed to relax a little. I was still working doing macrame but having some health issues, so I decided to try something new.

I was not very good at making clay earrings at first, but I didn't give up on myself. I turned it into a fun activity for my son and we learned together. Once I got the hang of it, I felt comfortable enough in my craft to sell a few things. I practice new techniques regularly and have been so fortunate.

My second baby boy, Hayes, was born in 2021. My two children are everything to me and they are the reason I continue to work so hard. I wouldn't be who I am or where I am today without them.

Since having Hayes, I have expanded so much! I now have a 3D printer to customize my designs more frequently. My studio has doubled in size since the beginning, and I am beyond thrilled to see what the future has in store for me.
